Postpartum and Pregnancy Planning Resources in Calgary: A Community Guide

If you are pregnant or newly a parent in Calgary right now, you already know the strange thing nobody warns you about: figuring out where to find help can feel like its own full time job. So I pulled together a running list of real, local resources, the kind you can actually call or click on, so you are not starting from a blank page at two in the morning.

For Pregnancy and Birth Planning

Prenatal classes across the city range from evidence based group sessions to private in-home options. Welcome Baby Co., Calgary Birth Essentials, and Hello Baby Prenatal Education all offer Calgary specific courses, and Alberta Health Services runs Birth and Babies perinatal education through the East Calgary Health Centre. If you are looking for a birth doula to be with you during labour, the Calgary Doula Association is a good place to start connecting with someone who fits your family. DoulaMatch is another good option if you want to compare doula profiles and specialties side by side before reaching out.

For Planning Postpartum Support

Most plans stop at the birth. But the weeks after deserve just as much thought, look for a postpartum doula who cares for you, not only the baby. Feeding support and newborn guidance matter, but so does someone tending to your own recovering body: hands that offer a body and abdominal massage , a nutrient dense meal set in front of you, nourishing tea while you finally sit down, a presence that listens, judgement free with empathy, and one that empowers you through this new journey (because you've got this!) rather than moving quickly from task to task.

This is the whole premise behind The Gentle Nest. Every visit holds your body and your baby together, gentle, non-clinical body, abdominal and foot massage, a nourishing hot meal, tea, alongside newborn care and lactation support, rooted in Ojojo Omo, a Yoruba postpartum tradition that never asks a mother to heal in isolation while someone else tends the baby. It's the same hands every time, getting to know your home and your story, so you're not explaining yourself over and over to someone new. It's less a service and more a space to finally be held, the way you're holding everyone else.

There's no window you can miss, either. Whether you're planning ahead in your second trimester, a few days postpartum, or realizing months later that your body is still holding the weight of it, you're on time.

For Your Body After Birth

Moss Postpartum House on 8th Ave NW brings acupuncture, chiropractic care, registered massage therapy, physiotherapy, naturopathic medicine, counselling, and lactation support under one roof, with language and care that welcomes birthing parents, non-birthing parents, and every family shape in between. For lymphatic drainage specifically, Curves by Jenny is who I personally send my own clients to.

For Feeding Support

Feeding, whatever form it takes, often needs its own support system. The Breastfeeding Clinic through AHS, Calgary Breastfeeding Center and the Well Fed Clinic offer lactation consultations for parents working through latch, supply, or just wanting a second set of hands to make sure things are going well.

For Emotional and Mental Health Support

Families Matter Society runs several free or low cost programs worth knowing about: Baby Drop-In for parents with infants up to 12 months, Caring Connections for mothers working through stress and relationship patterns, and a Rural Peer Group that meets over Zoom. Postpartum Circle offers peer support built specifically around the postpartum period. And if you are not sure where to start, call Health Link at 811, they are staffed around the clock and can point you toward the right service, while 211 Alberta connects you to a real person who knows the local landscape. Moss Postpartum House also offers on-site counselling if you would rather pair emotional support with your physical recovery care in one place.

For Pregnancy or Infant Loss

The Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Centre and Alberta Health Services both offer dedicated grief support for families navigating miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. You do not have to carry that alone or explain yourself to access care.

Consider this list a starting point rather than the whole picture. Calgary has more care woven through it than most new parents realize, and I am glad The Gentle Nest can be one thread in that web. If in-home postpartum support sounds like something your family could use, I offer a free 30 minute discovery call to talk through what that could look like for you.
